2. How Does a Multi-head Weigher Work?

The working process starts when bulk product enters the machine from an upper infeed system. The product is spread across the distribution area and then moved toward individual feeding channels.

Each channel sends product into a small weighing hopper. Once the product reaches the required preliminary amount, the machine measures the weight in that hopper. The controller now has several weight values to work with.

Instead of opening one hopper and hoping it contains exactly the target amount, the system calculates different combinations. It selects a group of hoppers whose combined weight is closest to the programmed target.

Hopper size should match the product and target pack weight. A small hopper may be suitable for lightweight products, while larger products require more volume.

5. Which Products Can a Multi-head Weigher Handle?

```

I normally recommend a multi-head weigher for products that can be fed in reasonably controlled portions. Free-flowing solid products are the most common starting point, but specialized designs can extend the range considerably.

Snacks and Confectionery

Potato chips, crackers, candy, biscuits, nuts, chocolate pieces, and similar products are common applications. These products can often move through vibratory feeders and weigh hoppers at high speed.

Grains, Seeds, and Cereals

Rice, beans, cereal, seeds, lentils, and similar granular products can be weighed automatically before entering premade pouches or a vertical form-fill-seal machine.

Frozen Food

Frozen vegetables, frozen fruit, seafood, and other frozen products may need specialized feeding and hopper designs because their surfaces can be wet, irregular, or sticky.

Pet Food
